For the body of his work, Sid Fleischman was the United States' nominee for the international Hans Christian Andersen award in 1994. Speaking of overseas, his books have won the Netherlands' Silver Pencil award and Belgium's Prix de Litterature Enfantine.

Among his greatest honors was to have the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators bestow the Sid Fleischman Humor Award each year to the author of a comedic contribution to children's literature.

For his writing in the field of magic, Sid Fleischman received the 2002 Literary Fellowship from the Magic Castle's Academy of Magical Arts.
